Italian for Foreign Students I

Learning objectives
The course provides basic competencies of present Italian lexicon in its structure and in its evolutionary aspects. It also aims at improving critical examination of contemporary lexical renewal and the relation between Italian and foreign languages. Further goals concern the developing of analysis and production's skill, both spoken and wtitten, about different texts' typologies. The aim is consistent with the goal of the CdS to create a qualified professional figure of a culturally aware language expert.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to recognize the structure of contemporary Italian lexicon, also in its connections with foreign languages, and to use lexicographic tools. The student will also be able to understand and to produce different typologies of texts, in relation with diverse purposes.

UNIT 1
The first unit focuses on the study of Italian articulated according to text types; in particular, narrative and descriptive texts will be tackled, for each of which the morphological, lexical and syntactic characteristics will be highlighted. In the course of the lessons, some short stories from the anthology "Lingua Madre 2022" will be read (the relevant texts will be made available by the Professor).
UNIT 2
The second unit continues and integrates what was dealt with in the third unit, analysing expository texts (with particular attention to Italian for study), regulative and argumentative texts. The theoretical aspects will be constantly flanked by practical ones relating to autonomous production of texts.
UNIT 3
The last part of the course will propose the analysis of a musical album by the singer-songwriter Fabrizio De André, in order to illustrate its main linguistic, stylistic and thematic aspects.
Accompanying the course are 60 hours of exercises, which will take place in semesters I and II. The exercises are aimed at deepening the contents exposed in class and at improving comprehension and production skills, both written and spoken; they are also designed to help in the study of the texts on the syllabus.
Students will be able to access the website Italian Language for Foreigners I (LIN), Ariel platform, for further in-depth studies and materials.

Prerequisites for admission
In order to follow the course successfully, a B2 level of competence in understanding written and oral texts is required.

Il corso si divide in tre unità, strutturate in maniera da sviluppare diverse e coordinate competenze. Le tre unità si basano sulla riflessione teorica intorno alla lingua italiana contemporanea coniugata con un approccio di tipo comunicativo alla didattica della lingua nei suoi differenti tipi testuali.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The testing of skills and knowledge consists of a written test and, if passed, an oral test.
There are written partial examinations at the end of each module. Access to the oral examination is only possible by obtaining at least a sufficient mark in each partial examination.
