Learning objectives
The course aims to develop reading and writing abilities and metalinguistic reflection through the use of descriptive, narrative and instructional texts. It also seeks to provide a basic sociolinguistic panorama of contemporary Italian and a panorama of Italian language outside Italy. The exercises provide activities to improve listening and speaking skills. The aim is consistent with the goal of the CdS to create a qualified professional figure of a culturally aware language expert.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course a student will be able to produce and understand clear and well structured descriptions, narratives and instructions. He/she will furthermore be able to identify the main information in a text and reorganise it both orally and in writing. He/she will be aware of the diamesic, diatopic, diastratic and diaphasic varieties of Italian and of its evaluation outside Italy.

Course syllabus
The course aims to consolidate language skills in speaking/listening and writing/reading skills on Level B2, corresponding to the indicators of the Common European Framework of Language Learning. Texts of different types are proposed in the lectures, starting from which grammar contents are approached.
In addition to the course, there are 60 hours of practice, which take place in the first and second semesters. The exercises are aimed at deepening the contents of the lessons and improving the comprehension and production skills, both written and spoken; they are also aimed at helping in the study of the texts of the program.

Prerequisites for admission
For the second year, the B1 level of competence is required.
Teaching methods
The method used is communicative-textual. The approach and analysis of the texts make it possible to note and learn their linguistic characteristics and, by induction, through metalinguistic observation, structural and grammatical elements.
Students are encouraged to master the passive and active competence of L2, with attention also to some examples of special languages.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam is divided into two written tests (one partial in mid-December and another at the end of the course, in May) and an oral test, which can be accessed only after passing the written tests.
The written tests include:
- application-type exercises on language skills, having similar content and difficulties to those dealt with in the exercises and during the course;
- comprehension exercises of written texts, with themes, language registers and communicative purposes specified by the teacher.
