Learning objectives
Pathological musculoskeletal conditions are highly prevalent in older people and represent the second largest cause of disability worldwide. The present course aims to provide the following specific knowledge: apply and organize training programs in healthy elderly subjects; recognize and classify muscle aging and its causes; evaluate muscle aging with the most valid and appropriate clinical methods for Sport Science students; evaluate the association between the state of sarcopenia and the functional capacity in the elderly aiming to implement specific physical activity programs to prevent muscle aging and disability in geriatric subjects (example: reducing the risk of falling).
Expected learning outcomes
The student will acquire the necessary knowledge to accurately identify and evaluate the state of sarcopenia in healthy elderly populations with the appropriate equipment; in addition, the student will be able to apply correct and differentiated activity and exercise programs with the aim of preventing and treating osteo-muscular aging in the healthy elderly.
