Learning objectives
The course goals are to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to knowingly manage the psychological dimensions of their professional activity. basic knowledge of psychology as a behavioral science and its applications in a biopsychosocial approach to health/disease will be provided. In addition, students will acquire basic knowledge of general psychology essential for an understanding of the mechanisms and processes underlying individual and social behavior; basic notions of the cognitive and emotional processes involved in the psychological functioning of the individual; and finally basic knowledge of the psychological and relational characteristics of interpersonal communication in the light of the bio-psycho-social model.
Expected learning outcomes
The student is expected to acquire the skills related to the psychological, sociological, and historical aspects of a future health profession in order to properly situate their profession in a complex context of relationships and operational networks

Final exam: Multiple choice test, duration 40 min. The results will be presented to students after the exam and communicated via email.
General psychology
Course syllabus
Psychology as a bio-psycho-social science: definition, aims, main theoretical and methodological approaches in psychology. Experimental, developmental, social, clinical and health psychology.
Multidimensional nature of health; models of approach to health: the Biomedical Model and the Biopsychosocial Model; the role of psychology in health.
Stress: definition and characteristics. The biopsychosocial model of stress. Chronic and acute stressful situations. Physiological and psychological responses to stress, coping and coping strategies. Stress health and illness. Stress and hearing loss (deafness, hearing loss and tinnitus).
Motivations and emotions. Emotions, their characteristics and components; Primary or basic emotions and secondary or complex emotions; Emotion regulation and management.
Emotional intelligence, empathy and their characteristics and development; relationship between cognitive, emotional and relational development.
Communication: basic characteristics of interpersonal communication, verbal and non-verbal communication, communication and auditory impairment, hints on pragmatic of human communication
