Course syllabus and organization

Single session

Lesson period
Third trimester
Course syllabus
The course is divided into three modules: the first one is dedicated to the role of different social actors and the most used online and offline tools; the second module explores in depth specific areas of social and institutional communication; the third module is dedicated to practical exercises (production of a communication plan for a Third Sector Organization).
Prerequisites for admission
No special prerequisites are required, but it is helpful if the student has already learned in his or her course of study some basic skills in communication techniques and tools.
Teaching methods
The first two modules of the course include face-to-face lectures and testimonies of practitioners from the world of communication aimed at deepening certain themes or tools (e.g. crowdfunding, media relations, environmental communication, culture communication etc.).
The third module is almost entirely dedicated to group work: the papers produced are analyzed and discussed with the students and the managers of the Third Sector organization involved by the lecturer.
Teaching Resources
The course includes the study of two required texts and some articles pointed out by the lecturer. Lecture slides will be available on the course's Ariel site.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The assessment of learning is made of two stages: the first (group activity) involves the creation of a communication plan for a Third Sector organization; the second involves a written test (individual) in which you are asked to answer some questions. The written test is divided into two sections: in the first part you are asked to reflect on an important topic; in the second part you are asked to answer two questions of your choice from the four indicated. The questions are intended to assess students' analytical and reflective skills also, and are the same for attending and non-attending students.
