Learning objectives
The workshop presents the basic methodologies for the development of the bachelor's thesis, from the definition of the topic to the gathering and critical analysis of the bibliography, to the written draft and typographical formatting of the text, considering the different disciplinary areas of the participants.
Expected learning outcomes
Participants will become more aware of the plurality of methods and paths in the preparation of a BA thesis. More specifically, students will acquire basic knowledge and skills that will help them to increase their ability to:
- collect, read, interpret and process empirical, bibliographical and critical data;
- recognize what is fundamental in a text, distinguishing it from secondary information;
- relate a text to a relevant typology;
- use secondary sources properly and effectively;
- articulate and structure a scholarly text in a rigorous and coherent way, avoiding rigid schemes.

The workshop will cover the following topics: the setup of preliminary research, from the digital catalogue to the library; the filing of working materials and the creation of a library of tools; the reworking of materials through bibliographic cards and summaries of essays and volumes; the use and citation of digital sites and materials; the style of the scientific essay between exposition and argumentation; footnotes, from bibliographical references to critical analysis; the use (and misuse) of graphs and tables; the layout and graphic design of the thesis; the presentation and discussion of the work before the committee.
Prerequisites for admission
No prerequisites for admission.
Teaching methods
- Introduction and discussion of topics;
- Individual or group exercises on methods and instruments;
- Presentation of work led by the teacher or carried out independently by students.

Teaching materials will be uploaded on the Ariel website of the laboratory.
Assessment methods and Criteria
Students' constant participation and successful performance of activities will be verified.
