For an anthropology of "as if": fiction, invention and representation

The workshop aims to provide a theoretical framework related to the dramaturgical (or theatrical) perspective in the social sciences, showing its philosophical roots (e.g., H. Vaihinger), connections with the thought of E. Goffman and applications in cultural anthropology (e.g., V. Turner, C. Geertz).
The dramaturgical perspective refers to an idea of culture made up of clothes and customs (habits) "worn" by human beings to act out their lives. The following question concerns the existence or non-existence of moments of "non-recitation."
If one is always on stage, is there a place to take refuge, to be oneself by removing one's stage clothes? Does acting constitute the substance of man or is it a variable that lies on the surface? These questions will be attempted to be answered by: 1) confronting the aforementioned authors; 2) reflecting on the relational dynamics experienced by the students involved; and 3) ideally immersing themselves in concrete social contexts found in exemplifications drawn from literature (including those related to other disciplines). In this regard, we will make use of guest lecturers who are experts in other subject areas.
