Yoga: Body, Mind, Breath

Learning objectives
The course aims to provide knowledge of the human body, according to the unitary perspective of Yoga:
- the nomenclature and symbology of the positions and of the main moving sequences;
- breathing, relaxation and concentration techniques;
- the relationships between Western physiology and Indian physiology, in relation to the various body sectors;
- the main elements of Indian culture, with particular reference to the fields connected with yoga and its psychological resonances in physical practice;
in order to learn the inseparability of the relationships between body, mind and breath, living a practical experience of it

Expected learning outcomes
The student will acquire the knowledge of the human body according to the practical method of Yoga (nomenclature and symbolism of main positions, sequences of movements, breathing techniques, concentration and relaxation), understanding the benefits of its inclusion in the traditional physical and sports activities, for every target, including the less sporty and sedentary sections of the population

The pedagogy of the BODY: Yoga, the practice that teaches
Asana: posture (nomenclature and symbolism of positions), the construction of a Yoga sequence (beyond the chains of movement: sitting, standing, basic positions), compensations and contraindications, circulation of energy in the different positions, practice of the main sequences dynamics, the principles EF + FA (Equilibrium-Flexibility) + (Strength-Abandonment) in the biomechanics of yoga
Pranayama: complete yogic breathing, breathing blocks and breath consciousness: (rhythm, volume, retentions) in postures and movements, the main pranayamas (breath observation techniques) of the different schools, from the Orthodox to the modern ones.
Relaxation, Concentration and Meditation: techniques of deep relaxation, bases and supports of guided and free meditation, application in the improvement of performance, in the control of anxiety states, in the disorder related to the sleep / wake cycle
The movement and mechanics of the BODY:
Relations between Western physiology and Indian physiology. Anatomy and descriptive physiology will be consider using the experience of the practice of yoga
The philosophy and psychology of the BODY to heal the body-mind fracture
Introduction to the main elements of Indian culture, with particular reference to areas connected with yoga and its psychological resonances: the fundamental conceptions of the Indian world - genesis and development of yoga and its many diversifications

-Inclusion in the western world and its peculiarities
- Distinguish between what is mysticism and what can be traced back to an academic/scientific approach
-The main forms of yoga and its derivations: Hatha, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Kundalini, Vinyasa, Prasara and Power Yoga
-Knowledge and body awareness in the management and construction of Asanas
- Didactic and preparatory to the main figures (including strength holds, isometric ones and vertical movements).
-Particular attention to the definitions of Relaxation, Deep Relaxation and Sports Meditation (and all other forms of meditation).

Assessment methods and Criteria
Written evaluation test of 31 multiple choice questions (1 point for correct answer, 0 for wrong answer and 1 for honors) and practical test with a short sequence in which the student will have to demonstrate both the technical knowledge and the teaching methodology .
