Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the basic notions and a historical overview of the main aesthetic theories. The proposed path will address the fundamental questions and authors of the aesthetic discipline (intended both as a theory of sensibility and as a theory of art), also taking into consideration their interdisciplinary connections with other domains such as: semiotics, art history, history of literature, media history and theory, psychology, anthropology, cognitive neurosciences. The students will be able to employ the acquired notions particularly in the professional areas of editor of texts and images, operators in the field of education and popularization, operator of cultural projects in the public and private domain.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding:
The students will acquire a basic knowledge of the main theories (both of continental and analytic tradition) developed throughout the history of aesthetics. Along this path, the students will be introduced to the fundamental authors and concepts of the aesthetic discipline (intended both as a theory of sensibility and as a theory of art), to its main methods and to its specific terminology.

Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
The students will acquire the skills necessary to apply the conceptual framework of aesthetics to situations pertaining to the sensible or artistic experience, having recourse to an adequate specific lexicon. They will be able to orient themselves among the main theoretical models (both of continental and analytic tradition) and in the corresponding literature. They will apply the acquired competences to the reading and critical comment of fundamental texts of the history of aesthetics.

Course syllabus
The students will acquire a knowledge of the key concepts of the aesthetic discipline. The course will tackle the main theories of aesthetics as a philosophical reflexion on the sensible experience (aesthesiology) and as a philosophical reflection on the arts.
Prerequisites for admission
None.
Teaching methods
Frontal lessons with PPT slides; critical reading of the texts; classroom discussions; projections of schemes, images and videos.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The learning objectives of the course will be tested through a 20/30-minute oral exam aimed at evaluating whether students know and understand the main concepts introduced during the course, and if they are able to link the various topics and issues that the course itself has covered. Questions are also intended to test the students' ability in communicating the different positions with clarity and pertinence as well as critical awareness.
