Learning objectives
This course continues and expands the linguistic work carried out in the first year. The strong focus on current discussion topics will be complemente with elements of linguistic thought.
Expected learning outcomes
Ability to comprehend, analyse and discuss, both orally and in writing, complex texts of different types. Ability to analyse and discuss critically the topics treated during the course.

Arabic Grammar in Arabic
Through the analysis of narrative and technical texts, the students will reflect on the structure of Arabic grammar from an internal perspective, and on the evolving relation between classical and modern standard Arabic.

Textual typologies - acquisition and elaboration
Students will be introduced to complex written and oral material, which they will read, analyse and discuss, concentrating on discourse structure and use of connectors and working on their own production skills (summary, exposition, debate).
Prerequisites for admission
In order to register for the exam, students must have completed successfully the Lingua Araba I exam (both written and oral). A basic knowledge of English and/or French is recommended, as part of the secondary literature will be in those languages.
Teaching methods
The course consists of lectures and language practice classes, some of which will be devoted to the acquisition of an Arabic dialect. The MyAriel website for the course contains a Course Blog, detailing the contents and activities for each class as well as additional references and practice material.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The WRITTEN EXAM will test the following skills:
- Translating an unknown text in both directions
- Translating into Italian and produce a critical and linguistic analysis of a known text.
- Write an Arabic text on a known topic.
STUDENTS ARE ADMITTED TO THE ORAL EXAM AFTER SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THE WRITTEN EXAM. the oral exam will consit in:
- Demonstrating the acquisition of morphosyntatic structure through reading, comprehension, translation and analysis of a text provided by the examiner.
- Conversation in Arabic on the topics treated in the language practice classes.
