Learning objectives
The course helps to refine the student's critical ability and stylistic sensitivity in reading the artistic artefact, with obvious reference to the history of Greek art, and lays a solid foundation for the subsequent knowledge of the historical development of art that in various periods draws life inspiration from Greek models and materials.
Expected learning outcomes
Main goal of the course is to provide students with a basic knowledge of Greek History of Art (ceramics, sculpture and architecture), starting from the 10th to the 1st Century BC and to give them critical tools for an autonomous stylistic reading of the Greek artefact within its chronological framework.

Course syllabus
The course introduces students to the study of the history of Greek art. Actually, the main monuments are explained, showing their mutual connection and link with the history of the period. Contextually, preliminary stylistic tools and exegetical keys are provided. The first teaching unit (A) is dedicated to a general introduction, therefore it deals with the period prior to the Persian Wars (10th-6th century BC). The second (B) focuses on the classical age (5th-4th century BC), when the models are formed which are always considered valid and essential. The third (C) deals with the development of Greek art from the age of Alexander the Great to the Roman Conquest (3rd-1st century BC).
Prerequisites for admission
No prior knowledge is required, although basic knowledge of Greek history and literature is desirable.
Teaching methods
Classes are frontal and take place in the classroom; some in-depth lectures are scheduled by professors from other Universities and Research Institutes. Occasions of discussion among professor and students are also provided.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Assessement methods consist of an oral test, that is an interview on the topics of the course, starting from the recognition and comment of one or more images from the bibliography. The test aims to highlight students' stylistic ability and chronological knowledge.
