Learning objectives
The course aims to provide in-depth preparation on the method of philological investigation, applied to texts in the vernacular of all ages, and in particular to literary texts. The course also aims to make students aware of the evolution of a text within the history of Italian culture.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge
Fundamental concepts of the Lachmannian method.
The different types of innovation (indicative error; indifferent readings; contamination; diffraction).
The different types of editions (diplomatic; interpretative; critical). The different types of critical apparatus (negative or positive).

Skills
Critical ability in the historical interpretation of the texts.
Ability to hierarchize relations between witnesses.
Ability to place the single witness in the linguistic-literary context.
Ability, in the case of Author's Philology, to relate documents with other works by the author.
Mastery of bibliographic and methodological tools

Parte A e B (40h, 6cfu): Il testo dell'Aminta
The course will cover the history of the text of Tasso's Aminta, from the earliest witnesses to the first performance, to the rich tradition in print.
Parte C (20h, 3 cfu). L'edizione di testi quattrocenteschi popolareggianti
The course will offer the indispensable tools for publishing popular literary texts and address some methodological aspects.
Prerequisites for admission
Knowledge of the fundamental notions of textual philology.
Teaching methods
Lectures. Bibliography and other working materials will be made available on the Ariel website. Class attendance is strongly recommended.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The oral exam will evaluate the ability to organize the speech, to critically present the subject matter, the precise knowledge on the usual scale of thirty; terminological competence in the use of specific vocabulary.
