Learning objectives
The final internship in research laboratories within the University of Milan , or outside, in private or public research Institution, represents a unique and personalized opportunity for each student, who under the supervision of a dedicated Tutor, will have the opportunity to learn and apply the rules and the methods of the scientific research following a dedicated project. The acquisition of professional competences and of scientific methodologies is the principal aim of the internship in order to facilitate the progression into the University careers or the selection of job opportunities.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the internship, which coincides with the acquisition of the bachelor degree, the student will have acquired new methodologies, learned the scientific methods to correctly produce and analyze scientific data and be conscious of a real laboratory environment. In particular, he/she will learn how to analyze the problems, read the scientific literature, learn new methods, produce and analyze data, discuss the results, learn how to use the software necessary for writing the final thesis and prepare the final power point presentation. An external internship, either in a company or Scientific Institution, will offer the student the opportunity to work in an competitive environment and learn specific activities.

Prerequisites for admission
In order to facilitate the completion of the cultural and professional training, in the third year, each student must carry out an internship activity in an interdisciplinary laboratory, with theoretical and practical biotechnological contents/applications. The research laboratory can be choosen within those of the University of Milan, or outside, in a private or public research institute. The attendance to the internship is mandatory. Only students having successfully obtained 90 CFU in their career can apply for internship, while 115 CFU are required to begin the internship.

Teaching methods
The activities carried out by the students during their internship are generally related to experimental laboratory or field activities, data processing and validation; monitoring productive activities and/or processes, data collection and processing; database analysis, information collection and processing.

Assessment methods and Criteria
At the end of the internship, the Supervisor certifies the conclusion of the activities by releasing the final certificate, necessary to obtain the corresponding CFU.
In case of external traineeships, hosted by public or private structures affiliated with the University of Milan, the internship activities must be agreed by both the Supervisor (internal teacher) and the Company Tutor, and carried out within the time frame defined in every single agreement between the University and the external partner.
