The objective of the course is to provide students with the knowledge of the new technologies used in animal husbandry (Precision Livestock Farming - PLF

Students will be able to identify the differences in tools used in PLF and be able to design new tool.

Livestock production today: Worldwide situation and European framework 1 hour
Basic principles of livestock physiology, concepts of animal health, welfare and behaviour, animal welfare status assessment 2 hours
IT technologies used in livestock farms, sound analysis, video analysis, development of algorithms. 2 hours
Analysis of the information provided by the sensors and technologies installed on farm, labelling, validation and development of PLF systems 3 hours
PLF use in the intensive pig, 2 hours
PLF use in the intensive dairy, 2 hours
PLF use in the intensive poultry 2 hours
PLF use in extensive farms and aquaculture 2 hours
Prerequisites for admission
The only prerequisite is a good knowledge of the rearing systems and management of livestock

Students will have access to slides of lectures and any additional documents.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam will focus on the presentation of designed PLF products by groups of students. This presentation should serve both to test the understanding of the topics covered during frontal teaching and during exercises, both to enhance the project idea and exposure capabilities of students.
