Learning objectives
To gain knowledge of the applications in the field of animal husbandry of the main sensors and tools for precision farming aimed at improving productivity, animal health and welfare, and sustainability.
Use of the processing and interpretation of farm data to advance scientific and practical knowledge on the breeding of dairy and meat animals.
Expected learning outcomes
Be able to interpret and analyze farm data for the technical evaluation of livestock farms with different production orientations, as well as for managerial and operational activities in the field of animal husbandry and related professional activities. Acquire the ability to process data from sensors using various modeling tools and software, with the goal of improving efficiency and sustainability in modern livestock farming.
Single course

This course can be attended as a single course.

Course syllabus and organization

Single session

Lesson period
Second semester
Course syllabus
The topics discussed will always start from an updated assessment of the systems that allow monitoring of the various aspects of breeding. In particular, the aspects of monitoring and management of production, reproduction and animal health in cattle, pork and poultry farming will be explored. The management aspects of the different breeding phases will be explored (young animals, animals in production and reproduction phase).
Prerequisites for admission
Animal science studies
Teaching methods
The course will take place for the most part in the classroom with lectures, group work and small barn data processing using excel.
By acquiring familiarity with processing and interpreting the data, the student will be able to interpret the livestock production reality independently and based on scientific data.
The course also includes trips to production facilities.
Attendance is strongly recommended
Teaching Resources
Slides from lectures and papers.
All course materials will be available on the ariel website of the course for enrolled students (attending and non-attending).
