Learning objectives
- To understand the complexity of environmental phenomena to be taken into account in territorial protection at all levels, from regional to local.
- To evaluate possibilities to manage climate change effects in open public space , from strategic plan to territorial governance action.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end you will have acquired operational skills in territorial planning implementation, at macro and micro urban levels, with particular attention to
- Identifying and understanding the fragility of territorial resources in relation to climatic and environmental emergencies
- Experimenting methods and tools for sustainable spatial planning
- Applying logical and technical knowledge to manage environmental vulnerability in public green spaces design.
- Strengthening operational skills and competences to communicate the results obtained by interacting with different actors, in order to stimulate their collaboration and participation in managing the sustainability of planning processes.

Course syllabus
The workshop develops a highly practical and experiential approach, offering an intensive three-day activity. Focusing on the area of North Milan Park, students will be involved in the analysis and greening of a public space. The team will collaborate with Park Management in order to assess strategies for intervening and mitigating the impacts of climate change. This will primarily focus on redefining ecologically deprived agricultural land into areas that support abundant ecosystems and an array of biodiversity.

The workshop has a very practical approach and involves group work.
It takes place in May. A minimum of 5 students is required.

Documentation supplied by the teacher.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The final examination will include a presentation, in which students will have the opportunity to demonstrate how they have understood and applied the disciplinary tools in developing the case study. Particular attention will be paid to critical and argumentative skills and precision of exposition, as well as the correct use of urban planning vocabulary.
