Learning objectives
The course aims to provide an analysis of the history of economics, trade, and international economic relations in the long run, from antiquity to the contemporary age. The aim of the course is to provide students with the historical skills to interpret the genealogy and evolution of current complex phenomena related to globalization and international trade
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be provided with an understanding of fundamental concepts, interpretative skills, competence in data collection and critique, and terminology specific to the discipline

Teaching methods
The course envisages a first cycle of approximately 15 lectures will provide the basics features of history of economics, trade, and international economic relations in the long run, adopting an extremely broad geographic perspective. The last part of the course will adopt a flipped teaching method based on group teamworks and in class presentations on selected issues, connected to global economics, long-distance trade and international relations.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Two distinct assessment methods with different evaluation criteria are envisaged, depending on the track students chose.
Students doing the group work and classroom presentation.
Those who follow this track will be assessed at two separate times.
1) A mandatory group presentation addressing a topic selected with the teacher and pertaining to the history of trade of international economic relations. The work will be organized in small groups and the results will be presented (and discussed) to the class.
The group work part will count for 40% of the overall grade.
2) Written exam in essay made of one question. Each question is divided in: (a) a general part totaling 2/3 of the exam score, and (b) a section devoted to applied historical cases, totaling 1/3 of the exam score.

The written exam will count for 60% of the overall score.
Knowledge and understanding will be verified by analyzing the contents of the in class presentation and the written exam. The ability in applying knowledge and understanding will be verified by analyzing the group work presentation. Learning skills and the ability in making judgments will be verified by analyzing the answers given in the written exam. Communication skills and the ability in using the proper technical language will be verified by analyzing the in class presentation.
- Students not doing the group work and classroom presentation
Written exam in essay form structured in two questions each providing a maximum of 15 points. Each question is divided in: (a) a general part providing a maximum of 10 points, and (b) a section devoted to applied historical cases, each providing a maximum of 5 marks. Failing one of the two questions will imply, failing the whole exam.

Knowledge and understanding will be verified by analyzing the contents of both answers. The ability in applying knowledge and understanding will be verified by analyzing the answers given to the sections devoted to applied historical cases. Learning skills and the ability in making judgments will be verified by analyzing the answers given to the general part of the questions. Communication skills and the ability in using the proper technical language will be verified by analyzing the terms adopted in the answers and the propensity in clarifying their meaning.
