Learning objectives
The aim of the internship is to provide competencies and practical skills related to the triage process in dogs and cats and the management of the hospitalized patients. The student will be instructed in the rapid assessment and treatment of emergencies / urgencies, acute and chronic internal, surgical, gynecological-obstetric pathologies that require clinical evaluation, as well as their monitoring. It will also provide competencies and practical skills related to patient containment, placement and management of blood catheters, probes and urinary catheters, as well as the administration of the therapies (fluids, drugs, foods etc.) and the management of infectious patients according to biosafety protocols.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of this internship, the student should be able to process properly a triage, monitor the clinical conditions of the hospitalized patient, perform venous blood withdrawal, evaluate the placement of probes and catheters, administer drugs and monitor fluid therapy. He should also read and fill properly the hospitalization folder in order to follow the prescriptions, and record all the procedures and treatments carried out on the hospitalized animal. He/she should be able to communicate clearly the clinical updates with appropriate terminology to the medical staff.
