Learning objectives
The workshop aims to provide the essential concepts in order the main techniques of management and digital enhancement of archives, historical and current, also through the knowledge of essential IT techniques and tools.
Expected learning outcomes
During the workshop the students will have the opportunity to get to know different archives and to try their hand at management and IT enhancement of documents, both paper and digital born. They will therefore have the opportunity to learn the basic concepts for IT management of documentation and the use of the main software and to have an overview of the application of the most modern technologies to archiving.
These skills will be acquired through an introductory lesson, followed by lessons and exercises coordinated by the teacher on a project, carried out in different archives. Peer to peer discussions on the methods used and the results obtained will take place. Educational materials used during the meetings will be made available to members on the Ariel platform. Students will also have the opportunity to contact the teacher both by email and during office hours.

During the workshop the students will have the opportunity to get to know different archives, public and private, and to try their hand at management and IT enhancement of documents, both paper and digital born. They will therefore have the opportunity to learn the basic concepts for IT management of documentation and the use of the main software and to have an overview of the application of the most modern technologies to archiving.
Prerequisites for admission
There are no specific requirements different from those requested for the admission to the DM degree.
Teaching methods
Attending students

Attendance at lectures is compulsory for attending students.

In particular, during the laboratory the student will be able to:
- visit and get to know different archives;
- try your hand at management and IT enhancement of documents, both paper and native digital;
- learn the basic concepts for IT documentation management;
- learn how to use the main software and have an overview of the application of the most modern technologies in the world of archiving.

These skills will be acquired:
- with introductory lessons;
- with lessons and exercises coordinated by the teacher, carried out in various archives;
- with the creation of a short descriptive report of the project carried out.

Collective discussions will also be held on the methods used and the results obtained.

Non-attending students

Non-attending students are first asked to contact the teacher by the second lesson in order to set up their work.
Non-attending students, who will be assigned a project to work on based on their interests, will be required to carry out an activity and produce a written paper.
Teaching Resources
Attending students

Knowledge of the topics covered in class and their practical application is required.
Materials and tools will be provided to the students during the lessons of the workshop.
Students will also have the opportunity to contact the teacher both by email and during office hours.

Non-attending students

Non-attending students are required to contact the teacher by the second lesson of the workshop in order to identify reference materials and to set up the development of the work.

International or Erasmus incoming students are invited to write to the course leader to agree on the programme, possibly in English.
Assessment methods and Criteria
- Method: evaluation at the end of the activity.
- Type of examination: assessment during and at the end of the workshop on the basis of the participation in the lessons, of the development of the project and the descriptive report, as well as the production of the written paper (for non-attending students).
- Assessment criteria: the participation in the lessons, the ability to elaborate and develop the acquired competences, the methodologies used in the production of the papers and the competences in the use of the tools of the discipline, both from a formal and content-related point of view, will be assessed.
- Type of assessment: approval with recognition of 3 CFUs.

The methods of assessment for students with disabilities and/or DSA must be agreed with the teacher.
