Learning objectives
The workshop aims to address working methods and problems posed by critical editions of musical texts in the light of textual criticism and modern editing techniques. At the same time, the workshop aims to be a training ground for comparing working methods, current editorial solutions and the results of philology applied to musical texts.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will know the principles of textual criticism, the working methods of musical philology and its editing techniques. They will also know how to apply the techniques learned and how to evaluate the main editorial projects of musical texts currently underway.

The workshop aims to address working methods and problems posed by critical editions of musical texts in the light of textual criticism and modern editing techniques. It consists of a series of practical exercises, using examples taken from original sources from the XVIII and XIX centuries, and aimed at solving specific problems of a critical edition. At the same time, the workshop aims to be a training ground for comparing working methods, current editorial solutions and the results of philology applied to musical texts.
Prerequisites for admission
The workshop is addressed to students with a good knowledge of musical language, as well as a good knowledge of musical grammar and notation. A basic knowledge in the field of music philology is also required.
Teaching methods
The workshop consists of a series of practical exercises, using examples taken from original sources and aimed at solving specific problems of a critical edition.
Teaching Resources
Scores, ancient printed and manuscript musical sources, monumental critical editions currently ongoing, editorial guidelines of the main critical editions series.
Assessment methods and Criteria
Given exercises will be carried out individually and will be submitted to the joint discussion.
