Teaching Workshop: How to Write a Thesis: from Design to Presentation

Learning objectives
The workshop presents the basic methodologies for the development of a thesis, from defining the topic, collecting and critically analysing the bibliography, to writing and editing the text, taking into account the different disciplinary areas of the participants.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will receive methodological guidance on the preparation of the thesis and will acquire basic knowledge and skills that will help them to:
· consciously plan their thesis work from the choice of topic to the construction of the summary;
· use physical catalogues, digital libraries and databases for bibliographical research;
· analysing a critical text by selecting the information functional to their argumentation;
· apply the editorial rules for the layout of the text, citations, footnotes and the final bibliography;
· write a critical essay that is correct from a spelling, morpho-syntactic and stylistic point of view;
· proofreading the text, correcting typos and ensuring consistency.

Course syllabus
The workshop will cover the following topics: thesis design (choice and definition of the topic according to the various methodological and disciplinary approaches offered by the degree course; bibliographical research, from the digital catalogue to the physical library; organization of bibliographical material; collection of ideas); text drafting according to the methodological, linguistic and stylistic criteria of the academic writing; layout and graphic-editorial management of the thesis; final revision of the text (proofreading, textual coherence and cohesion); presentation and discussion of the thesis before the commission.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Students' constant participation and successful performance of activities will be verified. The final evaluation is "Approved" or "Not-approved".
