Learning objectives
The course aims to provide in-depth knowledge of special procedures in criminal matters and a basic understanding of criminal judgements enforcement, in order to develop the ability to understand, argue and make critical judgements. Therefore, lectures will be accompanied by seminars and exercises involving: the examination of case law; discussions of cases/issues; the drafting of documents; debates/mock trials.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding of the systematic connections in the field; independent research into legislation, case law, and doctrine; ability to apply learned concepts to concrete cases and to argue; ability to express concepts with appropriate language, coherence, and independent judgment.

Course syllabus
The 6-credit course aims to explore, both theoretically and in practical terms, the special criminal proceedings governed by Book VI of the Code of Criminal Procedure: the deflationary procedures of the trial (giudizio abbreviato, applicazione della pena su richiesta delle parti, procedimento per decreto, sospensione del procedimento con messa alla prova); the expedited procedures of the trial (giudizio direttissimo, giudizio immediato).
The 9-credit course adds to the 6-credit program some relevant topics regarding res judicata and illustrates the institutional framework for enforcement of judgments, by Book X of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Prerequisites for admission
The Criminal law exam and Criminal Procedure exam are a prerequisite for this exam.
Teaching methods
The 6-credit course focuses on special criminal proceedings.
The 9-credit course complements the 6-credit program with topics of greater interest regarding res judicata and criminal enforcement.
Lectures will be complemented by the following learning activities:
- Case/issue discussions;
- Student presentations of significant rulings;
- Drafting of documents;
- Mock trial.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The final exam is held in oral form and the evaluation is expressed with a grade in thirtieth, with possible praise. The criteria for the evaluation of the oral test take into account the correctness of the contents, the understanding of the systematic links, the clarity of the exposure and the ability to analyze.
