Learning objectives
The course will cover the various aspects of Arab culture in a historical, diachronic perspective, encouraging students to understand, discuss and critically analyse the key topics of Arab culture, in their historical, social and political contexts.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
- investigate, critically discuss and communicate the most important topics of Arab culture
- master the course contents independently and proficiently
- find additional secondary sources on specific topics
- identify interrelations between different cultures within the Arab world.

Students will be introduced to the birth and formation of Arab culture in its historical, political, literary and religious aspects, up to the end of the Ottoman Empire.
Prerequisites for admission
To take the Arabic Culture II exam, you must have passed Arabic Culture I.
Teaching methods
Frontal lectures as well as seminars by invited speakers. The MyAriel website for the course contains a Course Blog, detailing the contents and activities for each class as well as additional references.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of an interview in which students will have to demonstrate their knowledge of the course topics and set texts, and the ability to contextualize, comment and discuss them in the light of the analytical tools provided during the course. Part of the exam may be in the form of a written questionnaire with open answers.
