Clinical Pharmacology and Psychopharmacology in Complex Patients

Learning objectives
This course aims to:
· Provide advanced knowledge on the main classes of psychotropic medications used in the treatment of complex psychiatric disorders.
· Deepen the understanding of pharmacological management in patients with psychiatric and/or medical comorbidities.
· Develop critical reading skills of real clinical cases, integrating both pharmacological and psychotherapeutic approaches.
· Promote interdisciplinary collaboration among psychologists, psychiatrists, and other mental health professionals.
· Strengthen critical thinking and the use of scientific evidence in evaluating and managing psychopharmacological treatment.

Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the student will be able to:
· Describe the main classes of psychotropic drugs (e.g., antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, anxiolytics) and their mechanisms of action.
· Identify indications, contraindications, and potential side effects of medications used in complex clinical settings.
· Analyze complex clinical cases with attention to psychopathological, pharmacological, and relational aspects.
· Collaborate effectively with psychiatrists in the development of an integrated therapeutic plan.
