Learning objectives
The course aims to equip students with the analytical tools needed to understand public intervention in the economic system, through the study of the main fiscal policy and public expenditure instruments that characterize the Italian economy.
It explores the role of the public sector in market economies, the functioning of national governments, and their decision-making processes.
Particular attention will be devoted to the analysis of economic policies from a European perspective, supported by applied case studies that complement the theoretical framework related to public spending and taxation mechanisms.
Expected learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
Describe the main forms of public intervention in the economic system;
Explain the functioning of the tax and public expenditure systems;
Apply theoretical tools to assess public policies in both national and European contexts
Critically analyze redistribution mechanisms and the trade-offs between equity and efficiency;
Formulate reasoned arguments and exercise independent judgment regarding policy decisions in applied case studies.

Prerequisites for admission
Passing the Political Economy exam is a prerequisite for this course. Students are expected to be familiar with the basic concepts of microeconomics and macroeconomics, particularly the functioning of markets and the role of the State in the economy.
