MED/26
Language
Italian
Learning objectives
To provide the basic knowledge needed to understand the anatomical and functional mechanisms that determine the main neurological symptoms, with particular emphasis on symptoms related to deficits in cognitive functions. Provide an understanding of the terms describing major neurological pathologies, with particular emphasis on those that potentially affect higher brain functions.
Expected learning outcomes
Basic elements of clinical semiotics and therapeutic foundations of important pathologies of the central and peripheral nervous systems as well as hereditary neurological diseases.

Teaching Resources
The reference material for the course will be provided by the professor in the classroom during the first lesson.
Assessment methods and Criteria
Oral examination.
The commission will evaluate:
The student's ability to utilize the information received about nervous system diseases, including the main aspects of anatomo-functional and pathophysiological type. In particular, the student will have to be able to:
- Generally localize the lesion site within the nervous system (central, peripheral including the muscular apparatus).
- Provide sufficiently detailed information about the main neurological diseases.
- Provide elements useful for a first approach of differential diagnosis of the main neurological syndromes (e.g., headache, loss of consciousness, motor deficits, visual disturbances, etc. etc.).
- Have basic notions on therapy principles of neurological diseases and on the current new perspectives in this field.
