Legal Clinic On Human Rights and Social Vulnerability

Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the theoretical and methodological tools to explore the relationship between human rights and social vulnerability through the legal clinic approach of learning by doing.
Participants are involved in practical activities carried out in collaboration and with the supervision of legal professionals. Field experience enables the acquisition of legal skills, the understanding of the social dimension of legal issues, the raising of awareness of the social utility of the legal profession, the importance of so-called soft skills such as active listening and non-judgment and the need to guarantee access to justice to the person in a condition of vulnerability.

Course syllabus
The course focuses on access to rights for individuals, primarily migrants, in situations of vulnerability. It will include research activities involving legislation and case law to treat specific issues, real-life cases, and legal information sessions, primarily targeting unaccompanied foreign minors. The activities will be carried out in collaboration with and under the supervision of lawyers and other legal experts.
Practical activities will be complemented by theoretical lessons designed to provide participants with methodological and legal knowledge and skills, to develop the interpersonal abilities necessary for engaging effectively and consciously in the relevant contexts, and, finally, to encourage critical thinking about the law and the effectiveness of rights.

Prerequisites for admission
The course is aimed at third, fourth and fifth-year students.
Teaching methods
Frontal lessons, class discussion, practical-oriented and interactive learning methods.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Attendance at the course is mandatory. The evaluation (maximum score: 30\30 cum laude) takes into account the active participation during the course, the accomplishment of assigned tasks, and a written paper.
