Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery

Learning objectives
At the end of the course the student should be able to know perfectly the structure of the body and skeleton regarding all joints, and hard and soft tissues. The knowledge about all the congenital and acquired pathology of bones and joints should be well known. All the conditions, acute and chronic should be reported and listed. Any condition that requires and immediate treatment have to be described.
Topics that will be treated during the course: The bone and its healing, pseudoartrosis. The cartilage and its diseases, how to deal with it. Arthrosis. Congenital diseases in orthopaedics, DDH, clubfoot, spine deformity. Septic arthritis. Tendinopathies and neuropathies.
Developmental diseases with obstetric paralisys, neuromuscles diseases, flat foot, varus and valgus knee deformity. Genetical bone and cartilage diseases, osteogenesis imperfecta, Paget, rickets, osteoporosis.
Diseases of the knee, shoulder, ankle, wrist, elbow, hand, spine, hip.
General trauma with wound, hematoma, tendon and muscle tears. Bone trauma with green stick fractures, chondro-epiphyseal fractures. Long bones and joints fractures. Hip fractures, exposed fractures.
Skeletal tumors. Rehabilitation and bendages.

Expected learning outcomes
All the surgical and conservative procedures must be understood and reported sharply. Every kind of exercises like mobilization, aerobic with and without loading should be known together with the different physical therpies needed to treat body impairment and painful syndroms due to orthopaedics and traumatological diseases.
