Learning objectives
The course aims to enable students to achieve: - a thorough knowledge of the origin, sources, structure and functioning of the occupational health and safety prevention system in Italy and Europe; - the ability to critically address the issues and solve the legal questions required for the purpose of assuming tasks of a technical-legal nature related to the performance of business and professional activities and the implementation of the provisions of d. lgs. n. 81/2008; - full mastery of the technical language related to the subject; - the ability to connect the various topics and apply the knowledge acquired to the different subjects.The ability to link the various topics and apply the knowledge acquired in interpreting the sources of legislative and contractual regulations in force with method and autonomy of assessment.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student who has successfully mastered the subject will have an in-depth knowledge of the aims, contexts, issues and possible consequences of international, european and national law policies in the field of workers' health and safety with the acquisition of a method of reasoning suitable for dealing with complex legal issues.

Course syllabus
A first module devoted to the protection of workers' health and safety, divided into the following areas:
a) National legislation: constitutional principles, codified regulations, special legislation, Article 9 of the Workers' Statute, evolution of collective bargaining at company and national level;
b) International and European Union framework: ILO Conventions, Framework Directive No. 391/1989 and individual directives, case law of the Court of Justice.

A second module focused on the discipline of Title I of legislative decree no. 81/2008, with particular attention to:
c) The evolutions and characteristics of the legislation, also in the light of the digital transformation and the introduction of artificial intelligence systems;
d) The objective and subjective scope of application;
e) The institutional and prevention system;
f) The insurance system against accidents at work and occupational diseases.
Prerequisites for admission
Prior knowledge is required, based on the provisions of the didactic regulations of three-year and single-cycle degree programmes, in relation to propaedeuticity with other courses.
Teaching methods
Lectures may be complemented by the analysis of practical cases and meetings with practitioners active in the field of health and safety protection of workers.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The examination will take place orally. The criteria for the assessment of the oral examination will take into account the correctness of the content, clarity of argumentation and the ability to critically analyse and revise.
Students may take intermediate written tests in accordance with the procedures that will be indicated in class and published on the course's MyAriel page. These intermediate tests, the assessment of which will contribute to the final grade expressed in thirtieths, will focus on the specific topics of the programme covered in class and will take the form of closed-ended questionnaires.
