Workshop: Fragments of International History. an Approach to Sources
A.Y. 2025/2026
Learning objectives
The international history of the contemporary age has also enjoyed renewed popularity and diffusion in Italy. Starting with introductory lectures on the main themes of international relations in the 19th and 20th centuries, students on three-year courses will be introduced to the various types of sources on the subject. They will then focus their work in groups on some crucial junctures in the development of contemporary international society. The Laboratory intends to encourage students to analyse these events from diverse perspectives using all available materials, including published and unpublished sources, as well as the memories of protagonists and historiographical literature.
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the workshop, students will have become more familiar with the main notions of the history of international relations in the contemporary age, from the Congress of Vienna to the end of the Cold War. The retrieval and study directly in the classroom of primary and secondary sources, mainly Italian, English and French, will be of particular importance.
