The term translation is generally taken to mean the transfer of a message in language A into language B. For over two thousand years, Western scholars have reflected not only on the very feasibility of translation and what the act of translation itself means, but also on the correct methods for the transfer of a text from one language into a new one.
Therefore, the workshop will develop along two lines:
1) A theoretical one meant to illustrate the principal translation theories emerging in the course of the twentieth century;
2) A methodological one that aims to introduce some of the basic tools available for contemporary translators.
Taking into account doctoral students' varying areas of linguistic interest, the workshop will focus on translation theories and practices that can by applied to any language pairing. Each session will be 90 minutes long.
