In harmony with the objectives of the doctoral course and with its interdisciplinary nature, the course deals with the theme of collecting antiquities between the 19th and the first half of the 20th century in the area between the Nile Valley and the Horn of Africa. During each lesson, not only the main figures of travelers and collectors will be taken into consideration but also the dynamics that led to the birth of the main archaeological collections that were increasingly developing within the colonial framework of the time. It will also address the issue of the dispersion of antiquities outside that area, the formation of local museums and their post-colonial transformation.
