The course aims to analyze the relationship between women, deviance and crime from a diachronic and interdisciplinary perspective. The starting point will be the great witch hunt of the early modern age - which led to the persecution for witchcraft and the burning of tens of thousands of women throughout the European context - to delve deeper into the theme from the perspectives of philosophy and sociology of law, penal and ecclesiastic law.
The course grants 3 CFU and is articulated into five classes. Regular attendance is mandatory (max one absence allowed) and a final evaluation is foreseen. The course coordinators may send some readings to facilitate class discussion in advance to the participants.
