Students with OFA and compulsory 3-credit assessment

The international students enrolled in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses included in the table below must earn the compulsory 3-credit Italian language assessment corresponding to the activity named ‘Additional Language Skills: Italian’ as laid down in their Study Programme.

A separate case is represented by international students enrolled in Language Mediation and Intercultural Communication applied to Economics, Law and Society, ‘Stranimedia’ curriculum, who are assigned an additional learning obligation (OFA) of Italian language. These students shall fulfil the relevant OFA by reaching level B1 of Italian language proficiency by the first year; no credits are granted.

In lack of a valid language certificate, these students must sit the entry-level test, which is held once a year in October. The entry-level test can be sat only once. Test registration is available via the dedicated exam registration platform, i.e. Sifa, to be accessed from your personal Unimia page, under the category of 'Educational activities and other events’. Being absent on the date students had registered for is the same as not taking the test.

Those who, sitting the test, reach the Italian language proficiency level required by their degree course fulfil the OFA or get the corresponding 3 credits, which will be registered on their career page within 90 days from the test date. Those who prove the required level already may still choose to attend the course at a level following that reached at the test if they wish to improve their Italian language proficiency.

Those who, sitting the test, do not reach the Italian language proficiency level required by their degree course must attend one or more than one Italian language course and pass the relevant end-of-course test until they reach the required level to fulfil the OFA or be granted the compulsory 3 credits.

The Italian language courses for foreigners, from A1 to C2, last 60 hours per semester and are held remotely. Course attendance is compulsory.

Participants who attend at least 75% of classes and complete at least 75% of the activities available on the online didactic platform in use are admitted to sit the end-of-course test. Test registration is available via the dedicated exam registration platform, i.e. Sifa, to be accessed from your personal Unimia page, under the category of 'Educational activities and other events’.

Sitting the end-of-course test on the first scheduled date, which is held right after the end of the course, is compulsory.

Those who do not pass the end-of-course test will have access to 5 more tries to be sat – not necessarily in a row – within their degree or by the year the OFA shall be fulfilled (for a total of 6 tries for each Italian course attended).

Students who are not admitted to the end-of-course test or who do not show up at the first compulsory test session lose their right to access any further tries and will have to get a language certificate within their degree.
