Degree courses in Social, Political and Economic Science + Environmental and Food Economics: ADVANCED Language Assessment (3 credits)
SLAM - University of Milan Language Centre manages 3-credit advanced language proficiency tests in French, English, Spanish and German for students of the Political, Economic and Social Sciences Bachelor's and Master's degree courses, and for the Master's degree in Environmental and Food Economics (EFE), which belongs to the area of Agricultural and Food Sciences.
The required levels are the following:
- French: B2
- Advanced English C1 (not applicable to PPPA, MHR and EFE)
- Spanish: B2
- German: B1
Students who already hold a language certificate among those accepted by the University, earned for no more than 3 years at the time of submission (two for TOEFL) and at a level equal to or higher than that required, can ask for validation by uploading it through the InformaStudenti platform, 'language test' category. The certificate must certify proficiency in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
Students who do not have a valid language certificate will have to sit a placement test. Test sessions are held according to the schedule published on the "Other Foreign Languages" homepage.
If a student registered for the test is unable to attend, they are required to cancel their registration or, if that is no longer possible, to inform us in advance of their absence. In case of unexpected circumstances due to medical or work-related reasons, or issues with public transportation, the student must provide a valid document (e.g., a medical certificate) to justify their absence as soon as possible.
Each student can sit the test in the chosen language only once per academic year, i.e. the test can be sat again in the following academic year.
Students who pass the test at the required level will receive the corresponding advanced language assessment credits, according to their degree programme. Those who fail the test but achieve at least the previous level will have the opportunity to attend a 40-hour language course. Courses take place in the third trimester/second semester and attendance is compulsory. At the end of the course, students have to sit an end-of-course test. In order to be admitted to the end-of-course test, students must have attended at least 75% of classes. Those who do not attend the required number of classes will not be admitted to the end-of-course test, but they can sit the placement test again during the first trimester/first semester of the following academic year..
Language assessment in Advanced English (3 credits)
This test can be taken only by second-year and third-year students.
First-year students who attained the C1 or C2 level at the compulsory English language placement test can ask for its automatic validation and receive the advanced language assessment corresponding credits by contacting SLAM through the InformaStudenti platform, 'language test' category.
Only students who attained the B2 level at the placement test or students who submitted a B2 certificate are entitled to attend the course in Advanced English.
➲ Please note that the Advanced English language proficiency test is not valid for the fulfillment of the English OFA (Additional Learning Requirement) required by bachelor degree courses.
The OFA can only be fulfilled by sitting the Placement Test by December of the first year, or by submitting a valid language certificate among those acknowledged by the University.
