Prerequisiti
Final examination will consist in a presentation that addresses the use of biomarkers in animal models.

The course will help the student in getting familiar with the main biomarkers that are relevant in animal science.

Programma
Aim of these lessons is description of the main bacterial, fungal and viral infectious diseases and the tools for the identification of causative agents

Module: Laboratory techniques to test DNA-damage in animal models
Programma
Lectures
Causes and occurrence of oxidative stress damage (3 hours).
Evaluation of total anti-oxidant capacity and repairing mechanisms (2 hours).
Application of biomarkers for the screening and monitoring of oxidative status (2 hours)
Development of DNA adducts, DNA repair pathways and assessment of oxidized bases in cellular DNA (3 hours).
Identification of valid and reliable biomarkers in monitoring oxidative status in biological systems (2 hours).

Programma
Aim of the course:
the course addresses the use of biomarkers of nutritional exposure and nutritional status. Different type of biochemical and functional index of status of an essential nutrient or other dietary constituents will be studied. The goal is to critically evaluate the state of the science of biomarkes of nutritional intake in animal models.
