Learning objectives
The course will mainly deal with the history of China and with the history of some other Asian country with the aim to transmit to students the main historical notions and the most adequate methodological approach for the study of the Asian past. The first unit will deal with the birth of Pakistan, and of independent India and with the several conflicts and controversies that, since then, have divided the two countries with a specific attention to the Kashmir question. The second and third units will deal with the history of China with a particular attention to the changing relations between China and the world. The units will underline the following specific issues: 1) sinocentrism; 2) China as a target of the european, the american and the japanese economic and political expansion; 3) The integration of China in the world system
