Biological Basis of Wellness
A.Y. 2018/2019
Learning objectives
It is an integrated course constituted by three modules. The course focuses on:
· effects of specific hormones in sport and physical activities and bases of doping and antidoping;
· biochemical and biomolecular assays to follow the effects induced by physical activity on health
· molecular biology assays to manipulate genes useful in sports
· biochemical and molecular mechanism ruling the development and differentiation of skeletal muscle;
· skeletal muscle metabolism and its regulation and muscle hypertrophy and regeneration.

Expected learning outcomes
The course analyzes several topics related to physical activity: hormonal regulation, biochemical and molecular mechanism connected to muscle metabolism and physical activity and biochemical and molecular evaluation to understand the effects of exercise.
At the end of the course the student will know hormonal, biochemical and molecular effects of physical activity and their evaluation.
