Learning objectives
The purpose of the course is to introduce the students to the principles required for the preparation and control of dosage forms and drug delivery systems, in particular injectable and topical forms. The course allows the acquisition of knowledges to understand the relationships between technological, biopharmaceutical and pharmacokinetic properties of drug products. The rules governing the production and the dispensing of the medicinal and health products will be dealt with. The legislation that regulates the pharmacy practice and health care system as far as their ethical aspect will be discussed.

Pharmaceutical Technology
Physicochemical principles: interfacial phenomena; disperse systems: colloids, emulsions, and suspensions; rheology. The sterilization.
Biopharmaceutical aspects, formulation, preparation and control of immediate and modified release dosage forms: parenteral, topical and transdermal, ocular, rectal and vaginal drug delivery.
Introduction to homoeopathic preparations.
Pharmaceutical Legislation
Italian and UE forms of law. National Health Service. The rules governing the production and the marketing of the medicinal products. The case of generic, OTC, veterinary and homeopathic products. The regulation of the controlled substances. The prescription requirements. The ethic and the role of the Pharmacy Board. The organization of the pharmacy system. The law of the health product i.e. medical device, health food and cosmetic.
