Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the basic physiological, clinical and statistical evaluation of the effectiveness of the prescription of physical activity in different types of patients, and is aimed at primary and secondary cardiovascular prevention, rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary and at the increase of cardiovascular fitness. Moreover, the course aims to provide students with the basic statistical and methodological understanding of the contents of the scientific studies on the topic, from large epidemiological studies to clinical studies of efficacy and safety of treatments and physical rehabilitation.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student should have acquired the following skills:
. ability to evaluate the results of a scientific study and organization of bibliographic and / or experimental data;
. reading and interpretation of the data of a cardiopulmonary exercise testing (especially respiratory gas analysis and pulmonary ventilation);
. basic reading skills (interpretation, not diagnostic) of the electrocardiogram at rest and on exertion;
. ability to assess cardiovascular risk according to the model validated and reported in the current guidelines of the major international scientific societies;
. understanding of the application principles of sports therapy and of the prescription of exercise in various fields and pathophysiological models.
