Learning objectives
The course is part of the offer of the BA program in Communication and Society. The course aims to provide students with the theoretical and methodological tools regarding the relationship between language and society.
In particular, the course aims to introduce students to the broad field of study which focuses on communication and language as social dimensions. The course will cover the following aspects: face-to-face interaction and its rituals; the linguistic construction of reality and social representations; communication, language and individual and collective identities; discourse analysis and media discourse analysis.
At the end of the course students are expected to be able to identify the main aspects of the relationship between language and society; and to develop critiquing and judging skills in the area of media discourse analysis.
