Biotechnology applied to animal health and production

A.Y. 2019/2020
Overall hours
Learning objectives
The course focus on the relationship between applied biotechnology and animal welfare in farm, laboratory and companion animals. Oxidatively generated stress, related causes and the relationship between oxidative status and farming systems are discussed. Biomarkers of oxidative stress applied to the evaluation of animal health status are considered.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will have knowledge on the main basic and advanced biotechnological methodologies applied to livestock and companion animals, and will acquired skills to use some bioinformatics tools and software. Moreover, acquired knowledges will concern the identification and application of specific biomarkers for oxidative stress evaluation related with animal welfare.
