Learning objectives
Il corso esamina i principi e i metodi dell'ecologia dell'ecomosaico e fornisce i concetti chiave dell'ecologia vegetale e dell'ecologia urbana (resilienza e metastabilità, bioindicatori, popolazioni e metapopolazioni, criteri e metodi di valutazione della sostenibilità ambientale). Dopo una breve introduzione sulla disciplina, vengono affrontati le teorie e i modelli propri dell'ecologia a scala di ecosistema e di paesaggio. Quindi vengono esaminati i fondamenti degli elementi del paesaggio (macchie, matrici e corridoi) e le proprietà dell'ecomosaico analizzando i processi ecologici di base, i flussi e il dinamismo.

Course syllabus
- Introductory concepts: Landscape, Geobotanics, Landscape Ecology.
- Notions of general ecology and plant ecology: ecosystem, habitat, ecological niche, ecological value, ecological factors (physiographic, edaphic, climatic, biotic). Climate and bioclimate.
- Chorology: areal of a species, chorological elements, flora, life forms.
- Synecology: vegetation; conceptual and methodological bases of Phytosociology. The detection of vegetation and the processing of the data collected. The dynamism of vegetation (potential vegetation, series of vegetation, serial and chain contacts). Main Italian plant landscapes. Methods for evaluating flora and vegetation. Vegetation mapping and derived maps.
- Biodiversity: definition, evaluation, indices and indicators. Safeguarding biodiversity. Ecological networks.
- Landscape ecology s.s .: functions, eco-field, classification of the landscape, hierarchical theory, landscape as mosaic (patch, corridor), disturbance and fragmentation. Examples of environmental design.
- Ecosystem services: definition, classification, identification.

The course includes lectures, seminars and technical visits, classroom reviews of the practical exercise work.

Two ongoing tests, a practical exercise on environmental mosaic and ecosystem services, final oral examination.
