Learning objectives
The course prepares to acquire elements on the functioning of human body systems, to learn concepts and notions able to highlight and enhance the relationships of connection and interdependence between processes and physiological mechanisms that govern the human organism.

Prerequisites for admission
No prior knowledge is required.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The assessment of skills by the student will be achieved through a WRITTEN TEST.
The evaluation will be expressed in thirtieths and there are currently no intermediate tests or pre-appeals.

Course syllabus
Basic principles of General Chemistry: Atoms. Molecules. Periodic system of the elements. Ties. Reactions. PH calculation. Electrochemistry: Pile and Nernst equation.
Basic principles of Organic Chemistry: Main functional groups. Main classes of compounds of biological interest: carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids and proteins.
Enzymes: classification, mechanism of action. Coenzymes. Definitions of metabolism, catabolism, anabolism. Bioenergetics: ATP, Krebs cycle, electron transport chain, oxidative phosphorylation. Carbohydrate, lipid and nitrogen compounds metabolism.

Farmacologia
Course syllabus
Basis of pharmacokinetics: routes of administration and absorption, distribution, metabolism, elimination of drugs (ADME); drug interactions.
Pharmacodynamic bases: study of drug-receptor interaction; concepts of agonist, partial agonist, inverse agonist, antagonist. Examples of molecular targets of drugs.
Pharmacotherapy aspects: antidepressant drugs; anxiolytic and sedative-hypnotic drugs; antiepileptic drugs; antipsychotic drugs; drugs for Parkinson's disease; drugs active on the cholinergic system; basics of chemotherapy.
