Learning objectives
The course is aimed at third-year BA students of the degree course in Foreign Languages and Literature. It is divided into theoretical lessons, held by the course lecturer and aimed at providing students with the notions of Russian language and linguistics, and practical language classes, held by linguistic collaborators and aimed at acquiring practical skills in the Russian language. Year-long, the course supposes the acquisition of written and oral communication skills, with the related syntactic, morphological and lexical knowledge, corresponding to the third level (B1) of the official standard established by the Council of Europe for knowledge of foreign languages.
Expected learning outcomes
The knowledge that the course intends to offer mainly concerns the syntax of the Russian sentence: the student must be able to recognize at first sight the structure of any sentence, analyze and explain the functioning of the morphological categories therein. In particular, students will be provided with the concepts necessary for the analysis of the communicative structure of the statement and highlighted the main mechanisms for the expression of the communicative structure in Russian: the information structure and intonative constructions, the relationship between the communicative structure, the syntactic one and the word order. The knowledge of the structure of the actants of the verb and of the correspondence between the semantic roles, the syntactic ones and the morphological cases will be deepened. Then the complex sentence will be addressed: the criteria and types of subordination will be exposed, and the most frequent models in written and spoken Russian (constructions) will be analyzed. Furthermore, the tools of textual cohesion in the written and spoken Russian text will be analyzed: the discursive words, the collocations, the typical syntactic strategies adopted in Russian texts. Finally, a part of the course will be dedicated to the consolidation of translation skills, especially where there is no correspondence between Russian and Italian syntactic structures, and therefore to the practice of translation from Italian into Russian.

The course provides 9 ECTS and is not divisible.

Teaching unit A. In module A students will be provided with the concepts necessary for the analysis of the communicative structure of the statement, and the main mechanisms for the expression of the communicative structure in Russian will be highlighted: the accent structure and the intonative constructions, the relationship between the communicative and syntactic structure and the word order.

Teaching unit B. Module B will be initially dedicated to the structure of the verb's actants and to the correspondence between semantic, syntactic and morphological cases. Then the complex sentence will be addressed: the criteria and types of subordination will be exposed, and the most frequent models in written and spoken Russian (constructions) will be analyzed.

Teaching unit C. Module C will focus on the functioning of the structures studied in modules A and B within the texts: the tools of textual cohesion in the written and spoken Russian text will be analyzed: the discourse markers, the collocations, the typical syntactic strategies adopted in Russian texts. In addition, part of the module will be dedicated to the consolidation of translation skills especially when there is no correspondence between Russian and Italian syntactic structures and therefore to the translation from Italian into Russian.

The course program is valid until July 2021. From the 2021 summer session it will be possible to present yourself exclusively on the A.Y. 2020-21 program.
Prerequisites for admission
The course is partially held in Russian, the materials and the exam bibliography presuppose an initial level A2 competence.
To take the exam you must have passed both the Russian Language 2 exam and the Russian Literature 2 exam.

The course adopts the following teaching methods: frontal lessons, communication tasks, understanding and commenting on the video material. In addition, the course is supplemented by practical classes, for which please refer to the separate form.

Warnings for non-attending students
The program for non-attending students is identical to that for attending students. Of course, given the greater difficulties deriving from an autonomous preparation, non-attending students are recommended to devote adequate time to studying and processing the contents of the program and to supplement the bibliography with further materials available online or in the library.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of a written and an oral parts. The final mark will be given by the average of the two marks obtained (in the written and oral tests) expressed in thirtieths.
The exam can be taken starting from the end of the course, therefore from May 2020.

Written
The written test will include:
· Grammatical exercises on the topics covered during the course.
· Production of a written text (minimum 300 words) without dictionary, taking the cue from a short video on the topics covered during the exercises.
· Translation of a passage from Italian into Russian (using a bilingual dictionary).

Oral
The oral exam will consist of an interview on the program topics, aimed at verifying the student's theoretical and practical linguistic skills. Thus the knowledge of the theoretical topics listed above, the ability to analyze complex Russian sentences and the automatism in finding syntactically adequate correspondences in oral translation, as well as the 10 pages analyzed in the classroom and the 90 pages chosen by the student for independent analysis, will be the subject of the oral examination.
Specifically, it will be required to:
· translate into Russian short sentences encountered during the practical classes, and converse / dialogue in Russian on a topic assigned directly at the time of the exam,
· know how to report in Italian the content of three passages chosen by the teacher among the 90 pages written in Russian (not adapted) chosen and prepared autonomously during the year and the 10 pages dealt with in class, and if necessary be able to conduct the syntactical analysis of the passages,
· answer two questions of grammatical theory relating to the topics covered during the monographic course (in Russian).
Language in which the student is required to take the exam: Russian / Italian

International or Erasmus incoming students are invited to promptly contact the teacher. The examination procedures for students with disabilities and / or with DSA must be agreed with the teacher with the support of the competent Office.
