General and specific aims of the course
The aim of this single-curriculum degree is to provide its graduates with foundation theoretical competences and advanced practical skills in foreign languages and literatures. This degree programme takes an international, mainly European and American angle, focusing in particular on European languages and literatures.
Career opportunities
Special attention, both at the theoretical and at the practical level, is given to the study of languages. Foreign Languages and Literatures graduates will thus develop skills that they can use immediately, in any professional context that requires good written and spoken foreign languages, as well as a sound knowledge of literatures and a good background in the humanities. In particular, graduates in this degree programme will qualify as "specialists in human, social and management sciences" as high-level translators, linguists, or text editors/proofreaders.

Employment statistics (Almalaurea)
The course of Modern Languages has always had an international vocation, as it is more than natural given the disciplines taught in it and the fields of research explored by its academic staff.
The number of students involved in mobility programmes is constantly growing, and it is already impressive as it is. Studying Modern Languages allows to choose from a considerable range of abroad opportunities: the Erasmus+ programme offers approximately 150 studentships every year in 70 partner universities, distributed in 19 European countries, for a semester or a full academic year. Furthermore, an increasing number of agreements are being signed under other programmes, such as Erasmus Mundus (with Latin America and Russia) or Sigma-Agile (with Balkan and Eastern Europe countries). All in all, we have the cleartly richest international mobility offer in the area of Humanities.
The solid network that has been built throughout the years allows our students to carry out part of their curriculum in well known universities located in Europe main capitals, such as the Sorbonne in Paris, the University College in London, the Freie Universität in Berlin, the Complutense in Madrid, or in ancient colleges like Cambridge, Salamanca, Heidelberg, Avignon, Uppsåla, Coimbra, Krakow, Louvain, to name just a few.
During the months abroad, students attend courses similar or equivalent to those taught in Milan, according to a project carefully designed before the beginning of the mobility period, and signed in a Learning Agreement, a sort of contract between the student and the partner university. Our academic supervisors (often more than one for each linguistic area) guarantee a competent tutoring service, and credits earned abroad are fully recognised in Milan, adjusting them, if necessary, to the courses and exams requested by our programme.
Experimenting academic and every day life in the country whose language and culture is being studied, is a unique opportunity not only to improve linguistic competence, but also to gain meaningful personal and social experiences, not forgetting the uncountable possibilities of a cultural, historical and artistic growth. Studying abroad encourages a better relationship with foreign people and cultures, and fosters mutual understanding and the integration in contemporary global society.

f - 12 CFU LIBERI
