Learning objectives
The student will acquire the theoretical knowledge necessary to develop metalinguistic reflection in a contrastive and intercultural perspective. The student should develop sufficient language skills to interact appropriately on a range of topics and in professional communication (level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). A detailed description of syntactic structures in context in a varied range of texts is the main objective of the course. The student should be able to use the same structures in creating oral and written texts. The learner is expected to achieve a sufficient autonomy in language study so as to improve constantly and consolidate his lexical, morphological and syntactic skills.
Expected learning outcomes
The learner is expected to acquire the necessary skills to attend lessons, conferences and broadcasts on familiar topics in Russian, to read texts of some complexity, such as newspapers articles or specialized texts. The student should achieve a sufficient range of language competence to give clear descriptions, express viewpoints and develop arguments on different subjects, using some complex sentence forms. As far as LSPs are concerned, the learner will consolidate written and oral competencies in the field of tourism. By the end of the course the student should be able to recognize and partially produce complex texts, showing use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

The content and the literature will not be modified.
The exams could be modified in relation to sanitary conditions, but all changes will be available in due time.
Course syllabus
The course consists of the following teaching units:
1)Teaching unit 1 (20 hours, I semester) Syntax of the period in context: overview of Russian syntax with a closer look at some subordinators, relevant for an advanced learner, through reading, commentary and oral translation of texts. Oral and written mediation will be addressed during the lessons.
The contrastive approach will be privileged in the study of the syntax.
2) Teaching unit 2 (20 hours, I semester) - The language of the media: linguistic, discursive and pragmatic characteristics of the genre. Oral and written mediation will be addressed as well.
3) Teaching unit 3 (20 hours, II semester): the scientific text: morphosyntactic structure and lexicon in the scientific text, with particular attention to nominalization processes and syntactic structures, in a contrastive approach.
Prerequisites for admission
The minimum requirement for the course is B1 level of the CEFR.
Teaching methods
Lectures, seminars with active participation of students called to prepare and present materials and to discuss the topics covered. Language practice with native speakers. Attendence is highly recommended.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of a written test and an oral test, both mandatory, to which a grade up to 30/30 is assigned. The student can access the oral test only after passing the written test. The marks of the written test are valid within the three sessions related to the 2019-2020 academic year.
