Vineyard Protection
A.Y. 2020/2021
Learning objectives
Unit 1: The course aims to teach how to manage animal pests according to the most recent pest management strategies, that rely on the most environmental friendly techniques, to minimize undesired side effects and optimize the response of the vineyard agroecosystem to the attacks of potentially harmful organisms.
Unit 2: The course aims at providing to the students general knowledge on the management of grapevine diseases. During the course, general information will be provided on the plant disease (definition, classification, quantification, diagnosis, disease cycle and biology of the pathogens), and specific information will be provided on the most important diseases of grapevine caused by viruses, bacteria and fungi and on the criteria and means for an effective and rational
disease control according within the frame of European and National legislation.

Expected learning outcomes
Unit 1: After completing this course the student should have acquired the ability to i) recognize the animal pests of vine, ii) assess the extent of any yield loss, iii) choose and apply the best pest management options.
Unit 2 : At the end of the course, the student should demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of the basic plant pathology concepts, related to the definition, classification, evaluation and diagnosis of the disease, knowledge on the biology of plant pathogens, the most important diseases of grapevine caused by viruses, bacteria and fungi, and the means and criteria at the basis of the disease management, with particular reference to the vineyard level, within the frame of the current legislation.
