TEACHING METHODS The lectures will be held partly in the rooms and partly online (using the Microsoft Teams platform), according to the published calendar and the indications given by the University. The lessons will be recorded and made available on the Ariel website. The experimental part will take place online, mostly asynchronously (providing the material with audio commentary through the Ariel platform) and partly synchronous (through the Microsoft Teams platform). Information on the organization of lessons and how to access Microsoft Teams and any other information on lessons will be available on the ARIEL website of the course: it is therefore recommended to consult it regularly. Based on the evolution of the epidemic and in compliance with the relevant regulations, it will be possible to modify the modalities of the activities planned in the classroom, informing the students via ARIEL. P.
PROGRAM AND MATERIALS The course program and materials will not be modified.
LEARNING VERIFICATION METHODS Learning is verified through an oral exam via Teams, or face to face depending on the evolution of the epidemic and current regulations. The test will be aimed primarily at highlighting the knowledge of the skills acquired related to the various topics of the program
Course syllabus
Systematic of Apoidea. Relation between plants and Apoidea. Species belongs to Apis genera, as Apis mellifera and others. Bombus spp., biological cycle, ethology. Bee morphology, anatomy and physiology. Mating and reproduction; amphygony and partenogenesis. Preimmaginal development. Sex determination in insect. Social insects and castae: bees society. Annual cycle. Pathologies: Pests: Galleria mellonella and Achroia grisella, Braula coeca, Acarapis woodi; Varroa destructor, Vespa velutina, Aethina thumida
Prerequisites for admission
Students need to have knowledge of biology. Further basic Knowledge are the ones on agricultural entomology and on the morfology and anatomy of insects
Teaching methods
Asynchronous lessons (video lessons consisting of the recording of the teacher's desktop with audio commentary) of synthetic duration will be made available, organized
to cover the topics of each week. The lessons foreseen by the calendar will constitute a moment of revision and deepening of what is proposed in the modality
asynchronous, and will be performed using the teams platform with full registration, to allow its use both in synchronous mode and in
asynchronous for students not present in the classroom.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam will take place in oral form using the Microsoft Teams platform or, where the regulations allow, in presence, always in oral form.
In particular, the exam will be focused at:
- ascertain the achievement of the objectives in terms of knowledge and understanding;
- verify the student's knowledge on the various topics covered in the course: from bee systematics, to anatomy and physiology, to beekeeping practice and to the control of bee diseases and parasites.
- ascertain the mastery of the entomological and beekeeping language
