Learning objectives
The course is addressed:
- to students of the three-year degree course in Sciences of Cultural Property (9 CFU).
- to students of the master's degree in History and Criticism of Art (6 CFU)
- to all students of the master's degree in Music, Theatre and Film (6 CFU).
The course aims to introduce the students of these degree courses to the study of Ancient Greek literature in its historical development, presenting its communication modes, through the critical analysis of the texts, with a particular focus on the text-image relationship.
Expected learning outcomes
Students are expected to have an adequate knowledge of Ancient Greek literature in its historical development, its main exponents and its critical points.
Students are requested to be able to place each text or author in the proper historical context, They should also show an adequate ability to read critically and contextualize the proposed texts.

Depending on covid-19 restrictions, lectures might be held remotely, both sinchronously (Microsoft Teams) and asinchronously (Ariel virtual environment)

Course syllabus
Tales of travel and love in Greece

Unit A (20 ore, 3 cfu): Homer's Odyssey
Unit B (20 ore, 3 cfu): The Greek novel
Unit C (20 ore, 3 cfu): Lucian of Samosata

Attendance can be waived for personal reasons. Students working from home will be given an additional workload.
Prerequisites for admission
Knowledge of the Greek language is NOT a requirement.

Students planning to attend an MA programme in archaeology are required to attend a language module (Beginners Greek) and sit a written assessment prior to the oral exam.
Teaching methods
The course is mainly based on traditional lectures. The Ariel environment will be key to involve the students and to share updates, information and teaching materials.

3. Greek civilisation and literature ("Alla fonte delle Muse. Introduzione alla civiltà greca", Turin 2007, purchasable online)
4. Further bibliography will be given during the course.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The oral exam is designed to test the students' acquaintance with Greek literature and civlisation as well as with the contents of the three units. In their best interests, students may be given the opportunity to sit part of the exam in written form. The relevant details will be made available on Ariel in due course. International or Erasmus incoming students are requested to contact the convenor at their earliest convenience. The assessment procedures for students with disabilities and / or with DSA must be discussed with the convenor, in agreement with the relevant Office.
